A Mac question from a Windows student.

New postby alexong5011 » 25 Aug 2009 17:38

Hi everyone. I'm a Form 5 student and I'm planning to switch to MacBook Pro (13 inch version) after much considerations at this year end..... Just a few questions.

1. Should I opt for the 4GB DDR3 RAM upgrade offered by Apple?? They are expensive (Add for another RM 359). Or shall I consider buying the RAM sticks outside and then fit them in by myself?? How much will I save if I do so??

2. Should I go for iWork or stick with Microsoft Office?? (Note that I'm installing Windows 7 as well, but dunno which version yet). Which one is easier to use?? Well, I'm a student after all and you know, project works and assignments and all that....

3. Is the Apple Care Protection Plan worth it?? For that sum of money, I can buy so many other things already...

Actually, I was looking out for Sony's VAIO as well, for a model that are much equal with the MacBook in terms of performance (maybe in price as well). So, any suggestions??

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME. :)

1. You will save a lot. Get it yourself and install it. It's easy.

2. iWork is easier to use but if you are used to Microsoft Office, then use Microsoft office.

3. ACPP is worth every single sen. I've always had ACPP on all my Apple products.

It all boils down to which platform you want to use. No point getting a Mac and installing Windows on it. If you want to use a Mac, use it as a Mac. If you want to use Windows, then get a Windows machine.

I wrote something on this topic in our April 2009 issue. Check it out. :)
I am not always right but I'm never wrong!

Thanks. About The CHIP, heh heh, I've been reading it since I was like... erm... maybe Form 3 or 2.... And my mom has been mad at me for a few times because I ripped open my computer to try this and that. Then sometimes formatting the computer and trying new stuff without telling her beforehand  . It's really enjoyable to get you hands dirty in trying new stuffs... Well, I'm really expecting to see a full, detailed article on the new MAC OS (Snow Leopard) in the coming issue.. And the same applies when Windows 7 is out... Then followed by a comparision between the two OS or something like that... It maybe loads of work for all staffs at CHIP, but I'm sure the readers (like me) will be enjoying it.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
