CPU usage 0%

New postby me2baby » 23 Jan 2010 11:02

After having my PC on for about 6 hours, my CPU usage drops to ~ 0% - 5%. The whole PC will slow down drastically; opening a file would then take a few minutes. Does anyone know whats the problem?

I recently upgraded my vista to win7. I've never had this problem with vista and am only experiencing this with win7. I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 x2 DCP 5200+.

I have checked the SATA cables and other connection (reassemble) but the problem still occurs. I even removed the heat sink and fan, add new thermal paste and resit the heat sink and fan; problem persist.

Hope anyone can help. THANK YOU!!!

Could be a sign of hardisk failure. The symptoms are: slow file access, especially unresponsive when opening media files, AND unusual loud clicking noises. If CPU usage fluctuates between 0 to 10%, its ok with the CPU.

Thanks Ramirez!!! There weren't any clicking sound coming from my hard disk. Anyway, I formatted my PC, I'm no longer using Win7; just vista. My PC has been on for about 24 hours now and still going smoothly. No lag, no jam.

I still don't know what the prob is but I'm guessing maybe its the OS I was using.
