New postby Shunza » 15 Aug 2008 16:28

Wanna upgrade RAM for my Apple laptop.. No idea about the brand...

Which brand do you recommend? My friends recommended Kingston...

Please give me some suggestions.

Thank you very much!

For apple computers, there are two types of memory. Apple certified memory, which will cost a fortune, and the normal memory that we buy from the shelves.

The recommended ones are of course Apple certified memories....you can get those from apple resellers, you'll need to order them....the brands are normal brands we see everyday like kingston, crucial and stuff...the only difference is errmm...apple certifies them...

in my macbook, i use the cheaper, more affordable memory, which u usually get from the shops...so far no problems....but apple engineers will tell u otherwise....

so it all depends on your budget....

Well, I'm not sure what it looks like for an Apple MOBO, but for safety, buy two identical cheaper rams to pair with. Just chuck the Apple one away ler or donate it to other users!

Mm...I think I'd better go for the Apple certified memory one..Even it costs more.

I will go to order it from resellers.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!!

I would go with whatever has really tight timings. Google RAM timings if you need more information. It is pretty straight forward: lower number is better.
